Having Fun at Stampin' Up!'s Annual Convention 2014

Image

YEAH!! It's that time again... Stampin' Up! demonstrators from all over the US and Canada have arrived in Salt Lake City for the annual Convention, to get INSPIRED, see new products, see old friends, make new friends, swap cards, get business tips, and get very little sleep for 4 days. I am having soooo much fun and learning lots. One of the highlights is about what new products are coming to many stamping studios/paper crafting havens in the near future. Yep! They handed out the upcoming Holiday catalog...hot off the presses! **squeal** You are going to LOVE everything!

Image

I even got to play with some of the new stamps (and other products) that you'll get to order the end of August. Check out these two little cuties....a little sneak peek of what's to come knockin' on your heart strings.  Mmmmm....Pretty!!

Image
Tonight was Awards Night and Celebration of many Demonstrators (US and Canada) who have achieved certain sales levels, earned incentive trips, top recruiters and inspired many of their downline to promote. All demonstrators who received an award (or more than one) was invited to the Recognition Room to mingle, eat as much Dove's chocolate as you could stuff in your mouth, and take a memento picture with all of your Award placards. I received and recognized for 3 awards:

  1. Earned the Getaway trip to Washington, DC
  2. Level 2 Promotions (monetary award)
  3. Celebrating my 5-year Anniversary with Stampin' Up!  **squeal**

The first two awards would not have been possible without my loyal customers and wonderful downline....Lori's Dream Team!! I am so blessed and very grateful to have each and every one of them in my life. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all of your support; and for choosing me as your Stampin' Up! Demonstrator...it means the world to me! Here is a picture of some of my group members...formal and professionally posed.

Some Crazy Fun Before Stampin' Up!'s Fun

So, what does a hardworking stamper do the day before Stampin' Up!'s Annual Convention begins? Go lookin' for adventures, I say! So that is what my friend (and Upline) Tami and I set out to do. We had been trying to catch a ride with a tandem Paraglyder, but the winds (or lack thereof) were not cooperating by any means. So we hopped in a car and headed South to Park City to see what excitement we could find to fill our day.

Image

One stop at Park City Mountain and we landed on a ski lift to soak in some sun, smell the fresh air (with a hint of evergreens), and enjoy the peace and serenity. Of course, what's an adventure without a selfie! LOL

  ParkCityChairLift-SLC-July2014

Next stop was Olympic Park...to do something crazy fun...like riding a Bobsled down the same slopes the U.S. Olympic team did in 2002! I know...CRAZY, right?!!! Let me tell you, it was an adrenaline rush like no other that I've experienced. We had a great driver that got us to the bottom in 1:02:07 minutes to earn the Bronze, but it was quickly relinquished when the next team beat our time by 4 seconds! It was a thrill while it lasted. LOL

Image
After we got back to Salt Lake City, I headed out for supper with a wonderful group of friends. Most of them are my Sideline (meaning we have the same Upline), but some of them are part of my Lori's Dream Team. I'll post our group picture tomorrow.

Image

Stay tuned for all the Stampin' Up! fun to begin tomorrow. Until then, this is what the Convention hall looks like right now....the calm before the storm! **squeal**

Stampin' Up! Chevron Mask Meets Modeling Paste!

**SQUEAL**  I have a super fun (and really cool) card to share with you today!  Lots of love and not a whole lot of labor!  I held a class demonstrating the different ways to create handmade cards using Stampin' Up!'s new Decorative Masks and the stencils from the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit.  Of course, I had to add more beauty with the lovely Flower Patch Photopolymer stamps.  I do LOVE my Flower Patch stamp set and coordinating Flower Fair Framelit Dies!!  Let's take a peek at the card.....

FlowerPatch-ModellingPaste-Lori-8918

So, you may be asking "What is that shiny stuff in the Chevron pattern?"  This is the really cool part!  I wanted to go 'outside the box' and get away from the normal 'sponging' the stencil/mask pattern with ink to my cards.  So, what did I do?  I used Modeling Paste to add an unusual texture!  Yep!  I laid my Chevron stencil from the Build a Banner Simply Created Kit on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and layered on some Irridescent Modeling Paste using the back of a plastic spoon.

ModelingPaste-michaels-Image  FlowerPatch-ModellingPaste-Cropped-Lori-8918

Typically, one would use an artist spatula to transfer the Paste and smooth over the mask ensuring that the paste is evenly layered.   Nawwww, not me....I didn't want a smooth pattern.  In fact, I tried to purposely create peaks and ripples.  The best way to describe it is pretend like you are frosting a cake using the back of a large table spoon. Yummy, right?!!  Modeling Paste comes in several different mediums smooth, irridescent, and course (has a sandy grit feel when dry).  They all come in white; therefore, to add color, it is not recommended to add a liquid color, such as Stampin' Up!'s Ink Refills.  Adding more liquid to the mixture will thin it more than it already is and you may not get the end result you would without the added liquid.  Also, I let the paste air-dry for about 30 minutes.  You can use Stampin' Up!'s Heat Tool, but the paste will start to bubble and leave a 'puffy' end result.  That look is cool, too, but not what I was looking for on this card.

FlowerPatch-ModelingPaste-Header-Lori-8924

I inked up the large solid Flower Patch stamp using Melon Mambo and Hello Honey and stamped onto Naturals Ivory cardstock.  I stamped each color twice so that I could fussy cut (hand cut using my Paper Snips) the second image to pop up and layer onto the full image that was die-cut using the Flower Fair Framelit Die.  I LOVE dimension!  Before placing the flowers (with more dimensionals), I combined about 7-10 drops of Melon Mambo reinker ink to a Stampin' Spritzer and filled 1/2 way with water.  I also created a Spritzer with Pool Party, but used rubbing alcohol as the mix.  I spritzed each textured area at fairly close range to create a pool of spritzed ink (Melon Mambo) that would run down the page.  TIP: The reason I chose water over rubbing alcohol is because I wanted the heavy mist to 'bead up' on the cardstock so that I could make it 'run' down the page.  Misting or spritzing with rubbing alcohol will only make the ink soak and dry very quickly.  Stamped the sentiment with Jet Black StazOn ink, added a couple of Basic Pearls and the card is complete.

Modeling Paste can be found in local craft stores that sell Oil paints, brushes, and canvas boards....you will find a wide variety to choose from.  I chose the one pictured because it was on sale (buy 3, get 1 free).  Hey, the same type of sale we have going on with our Designer Series Paper Packs!  Buy 3 Designer Series Paper Packs and Get 1 Free!! **squeal**

Happy 4th of July -- Stampin' Up! Fun

It's a beautiful day today....perfect temperatures in the mid-80's, a slight breeze, and the sunshine generates happy vibes.  I wanted to share with you a few festive creations with you.  The first one was created by one of my Lori's Dream Team members, Sharlei Hauck.  We had a team meeting last month and I brought all of the supplies to create a July 4th Card In A Box.  I had the main box finished for inspiration, but wanted to see their version of decorating a variety of sprays sprouting from the box. Sharlei used the new Star punch from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack to sprinkle Red, White, and Blue throughout the Circle Banners using the Memorable Moments Stamp set.  So CUTE!!

CardInBox_July4th_SharleiHauck-Lori

I demonstrated how to use our Angled Tag Topper Punch to add pizzazz to the box flaps.  This was a huge WOW factor....thinking 'outside' the box.  Teehehe

I found a few festive creations using the June Paper Pumpkin kit in ways that were not illustrated in the kit.  If you enjoy be creative, and you are not sure where to start, you really should give My Paper Pumpkin a try.  You get all of the supplies (including ink, papers, embellishments, etc.) to create to your hearts content.  Start with the suggested creations, then keep some of the supplies to create something that is out of the norm....'outside the box'.  You will love it!!

What is Paper Pumpkin?  **squeal**  Check out all of the details HERE.

Get ready to drool over the next samples....

The kit contents can lend themselves to creating some festive décor for a Fourth of July party, like this adorable banner:

The pinwheels can be cut apart and made into fun bows that are great embellishments for treats and other gifts:

I love it when holiday cards don't always use the traditional colors, like these fun and cute cards:

Happy 4th of July!!

Have a safe and fun day with family and friends!  May God Bless You and Your Family!!

Stampin' Up! 4th of July Flower Patch

FlowerPatchJuly4thBalloons-Header-Lori-8912
OH.MY.GOODNESS!!  Where has the month of June escaped off to?  I can tell you that I have been stamping...really, I have!  But, I'm always on the run meeting new stampers, preparing for stamping class twice a week, and having so much fun coming up with new themes and ideas for new and innovative techniques to teach all my ladies.  I have such a saWHEEET card to show you...full of sparkles and fun that features a brand new Photopolymer stamp set called Flower Patch and a cool technique using the Decorative Stars Mask.  Let me tell you, this Flower Patch stamp set is not just for creating a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  **squeal**  Take a look!

FlowerPatchJuly4thBalloons-Lori-8912

See!!  What did I tell you?  Super cute, right?!!  Let me share how this all came together....

  • Night of Navy card base measures the 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".  Used my Envelope Punch Board to corner round the upper right corner....just wanted to add a little pizzazz.
  • The Whisper White layer features the Stars Decorative Masks (pack includes a Hearts Mask, too).  Using a Stampin' sponge and Crumb Cake Classic Ink, I set the mask in place and sponged ink in all of the star openings.  I wasn't so concerned about even ink coverage....I just wanted to make sure that each star was inked.  I think it gave it a vintage-y, bicentennial feel.  ;)  Again, I used my trusty Envelope Punch Board to corner round the upper right corner to match the card base.
  • The ballons were created using Red and Silver Glimmer Paper and my Small Oval Punch.  I popped up several balloons from each color using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • To create the balloon strings I simply took my Basic Black Marker (the writing tip end) and drew lines and finished with faux bows.  You definitely do not need a ruler to draw the lines....just go with the flow.
  • The Night of Navy "bursts" is one of the Photopolymer stamps from the Flower Patch set.  **squeal**  It really looks like a firework bursting in the sky, don't you think?  Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock, fussy cut (hand cut around all of the curves), and pop them up using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment was created using our new Alphabet Rotary Stamp....inked in Night of Navy Classic ink and stamped onto a strip of Whisper White, trimmed with Real Red cardstock and popped up using more Stampin' Dimensionals.  Yep!  I love these "foam elevators"!  I love it when my stamping friends use plain English to describe one of our products!  LOL!  Makes perfect sense to me!
  • ROTARY STAMP TIP:  The Alphabet Rotary Stamp will take a little practice.  First, do NOT press the stamp into your ink pad (tap, tap, tap onto the pad); otherwise, you will have ink transferring from other areas of the rotary.  Second, when you are ready to stamp your self-created sentiment, make sure that you stamp straight down (not at an angle) and then while resting on the paper, slightly rock the Rotary forward and backward so as to get all of the letters transferred to the paper.  If you squish your Rotary too hard into your foam ink pad, the rocking will cause ink to transfer from the other letters on the Rotary.  Eeeek!!  Did I say ROCK the Rotary stamp?  But, we have all been taught NOT to rock our stamps!  I know, I know, but you do want to 'rock' your Rotary stamp slightly forward and slightly towards you to get a good impression.  Practice it a few times and you'll see what I'm talking about.  If you don't get the perfect impression, look at it as if you just pulled it out of a manual typewriter.  Ooops!  Did I just share my age?  *wink*
