Stamp It Blog Hop with Designer Series Paper Lovers

July2015-TeamStampIt-HeaderGood morning stampers & paper crafters!

Welcome to another installment of our Stamp It Blog Hop.  You may have just arrived here from Tami White's blog or this may be your very first stop.  If so, thank you soooo much!  I am excited you are here. This month we are featuring our lovely Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers that can be found on pages 142-144 of our new annual catalog.  Beings that I was born and raised on a farm, I jumped at the opportunity to show off a few designs from the Farmers Market Designer Series pack.

Mojo406I've known about this blog hop for a few weeks, but kept putting it off until the last minute.  I think they call that behavior 'procrastination'.  haha  So, of course, when I *need* to get started on this project, my creative juices dried up and I couldn't get my MOJO started without a little help from a MOJO Monday sketch.  I am so excited to show you....let's go!

  BigNews-StampItBlogHop-Lori-IMG_2297 (1)

  • One of my favorite things about our Designer Series paper is that each pack comes with 12 colorful sheets; 2 sheets of 6 double-sided designs.  I love sooo many of the patterns in the Farmers Market series; and the sketch I chose is perfect to show off more than one design...**squeal**!!
  • The other thing I REALLY like about our Designer Series Paper packs is that Stampin' Up! lists the colors on the packaging so that it is super easy to choose cardstocks, ink colors, and embellishments.  The panel across the front really needed to be a single, large image...in my mind, anyway.  So, I chose to use a stamp from the Big News set.  I pulled out my Stampin' Write markers in the coordinating colors of Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, and Hello Honey to color the sentiment and then stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.
  • I love to add a unique finish to my cards, and I'm definitely on a Jute Ribbon kick.  I can't seem to create without including a little here and there.  I love the texture and the little bit of rustic feel to the creation.  Stampin' Up! offers a Basic Black Baker's Twine, but it is not a solid color.  I decided to slice a very (I mean, very) thin sliver of Basic Black cardstock and loop and gather this strand to make it look like an imitation Baker's Twine and secure it under the stamped heart from the Big News stamp set.

Well, that's it....super cute and easy, don't you think?  While the card ingredients are listed at the bottom of this post, you'll want to head on over to Liz Miller's blog to check out her uber cute project.  Let me tell you, she does amazing work.  Just click on the 'next' button and you'll be on your way.

OSAT Blog Hop -- Christmas in July!

OSATBlogHop-HeaderWelcome stampers and paper crafters to this month's Christmas in July blog hop!  You may have hopped in here from Marisa Gunn's blog; or your first visit was with me.  Well, you are in for a treat today as you will want to follow-through the rest of the hop to see more wonderful creations that are made just for you!

Have you ever had one of those days where you know you are running 20 miles behind schedule and your creative MOJO just left the room?  ACK!  Well, today is one of those days.  With only a few hours to create, I had to pull one of my nifty tricks out of my pocket.  Or, should I say "pinterest".  Yes, indeed!  I CASEd myself with this card using Stampin' Up!'s White Christmas stamp set.

Since I was short on time, what better tool to pull out and use for my 3D project than the brand new Gift Bag Punch Board (found on page 150 in the Annual Catalog).  One quick measurement, 5 punches, one set of scoring paths, and VOILA!...a little gift/treat bag all ready to fill with some of your favorite candies or a small token.  I started out with a piece of Merry Moments Designer Series paper measuring 4"x10" and followed the instructions noted on the board.  Add a simple tag, and you are all set.

Super CUTE!!

Sprinkles of Life Birthday Celebration!

SprinklesOfLifeBirthdayHeader-Kasey20-Lori-DSCN0057
Hello stampers and paper crafters!

All I can say is "WHEW"!  Summer is always a busy and exciting time for my family as it is filled with a handful of birthday celebrations, lots of gift buying, and too much good food.  As we celebrated my younger daughter's (Kasey) birthday yesterday, we said goodbye to the 'teens' and greeted the beginning of a new decade.  What better way to celebrate than with a birthday card using the Sprinkles of Life stamp set.  I can't wait to share with you what I made!  **squeal**

SprinklesOfLifeBirthday-Kasey20-Lori-DSCN0055

Let's check out the card deets:

  • Have you tried using Stampin' Up!'s Kraft cardstock to use for your card base?  How about making gift tags?  Gift boxes?  Oh dear!  You really must give it a try.  It is heavier than our regular cardstock, and is a natural 'kraft' color.  LOVE it!!  This cardstock is only available in 12x12 size, but you get 12 sheets.  I love that it comes in this size so that I can use it with any of the Sizzix dies to create boxes and treat bags, too.
  • The card base is 'almost' A2 size (4" x 5-1/2") with the fold across the top.  This was a left over piece from another project...love working with various sized cards, plus, I used up a piece of 'scrap'.  haha
  • Kasey has always been the little girl with curls that loves to joke, laugh, and have fun.  So to keep with her cheerful and contagious mood, I had to create a fun and whimsical card that is fitting to her personality.  I think the mix of Pool Party, Watermelon Wonder and Very Vanilla scream 'happy' colors, don't you think?  These are the same colors featured in the Sweet Li'l Things Designer Series paper.  Super cute, but I had to cheat and use a strip of designer paper from a the retired "Flashback" series because I didn't want to include the color-coordinated baby-themed 'clouds patterns' included in the Sweet Li'l Things pack.
  • For some added pizzazz, I pulled out the Squares Framelits Collection and created some 'frames' to coordinate with the color scheme.  To add a little texture and fun, I found some drywall patch meshing tape and placed it behind the Pool Party frame.  The rest of the frames were randomly positioned and glued down by adding liquid glue to the lower left corners.  The rest of the frame sections are free from any adhesive.
  • Before adding the focal image, I pulled some threads from the 1-1/4" Burlap Ribbon and tied around the Pool Party panel and tied a bow through the Very Vanilla frame.  This whole panel was popped up using Stampin' Dimensionals and added to the Kraft card base.
  • The cupcake, especially the cupcake liner, was the part that took me the longest to make a decision about.  The upper part of the cupcake was inked with Watermelon Wonder and stamped onto a scrap piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  I took my Aquapainter and watercolored Watermelon Wonder ink to make it look like it had been frosted.  I love smooshing ink into the lid of the ink pad to watercolor.  This gives you the freedom to make your watercoloring as dark or as light as you want...all with the squish of water from your Aquapainter.
  • The one thing you have to be careful about when using Classic Inks and the Aquapainter is the smudge factor.  I've put together a little sampling of the different ways to achieve a 'colored' image, but take note of what will happen when you watercolor over top of Classic Ink in the first sampling.

SprinklesOfLifeBirthday-WatercolorCone-Lori-DSCN0064

  • I could have just went the easy way and stamped my images directly onto the Pool Party or Watermelon Wonder cardstock, but those did not satisfy my wish for a light and whimsically colored image.  Plus, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to share with you how to watercolor an image and avoid the smudge factor.  Teehehe!!
  • NOTE:  Stampin' Up! donates time and money to support Ronald McDonald House Charities and every year Stampin' Up! designates one stamp set on behalf of this cause.  The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) keeps families together and surrounded by love when their children are receiving medical treatment far from home.  So, when you purchase your copy of the Sprinkles of Life stamp set, Stampin' Up! will donate $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.  To date, they have contributed over $1,000,000 to RHMC and their network of local RMHC Chapters.  Together, we do make a difference!
