Free_vector_cartoon_primary_school_students_illustration_519288There are 12 US states having state sales tax holidays for school supplies. What does that mean for you? Stampin’ Up! products that fall under that category will be tax free for a limited time!

TaxFreeWeekend-CropGraphic

If you live in one of the lucky states, make sure to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.  You can review the list of states that are participating in this holiday by clicking on the image below; or you can print out this PDF document as a reference to all of the information for each state including holiday dates, products that qualify, and the dollar limits per item.

2016TaxFreeStates-List

You must place your order with Stampin’ Up! during the tax holiday period in order to receive these items tax-free (midnight on the first day to 11:59 PM on the last day of the tax holiday).  You can include taxable items on the same order...the ordering system will figure it all out).  The state of Louisiana is the most generous...ALL items in the Stampin' Up! catalog are eligible for the Sales Tax Holiday!!  **squeal**

Keep in mind that this is a state sales tax holiday and may not apply to additional county, city, and special jurisdiction taxes. Lastly, Massachusetts normally participates in this holiday but they are not participating this year.

If you have any questions regarding this Sales Tax Holiday and the chart, please be sure to contact me.  Don't miss out on this opportunity to stock up on qualifying supplies and tools.  WOOT!!

Stamp It Blog Hop -- Stamping Christmas In July

July2016-TeamStampIt-Header
Hello stampers; and welcome aboard the July Stamp It Blog Hop!  How is the weather in your area treating you?  Here in the Heartland?  Well, let's just say that this last week has truly been a scorcher with a lot of dense humidty.  We have seen temps in the low 100's with a heat index as high as 114 degrees. YIKES!!  And, why do I bring this up?  Funny you should ask....can you believe that the Stamp It Group members are creating Christmas In July projects?!!  Now, if only we had a fraction of the cooler weather to go along with it.  sigh

If you have been traveling along the Stamp It Group Blog Hop, you may have come here from my dear sweet friend, Oksana Semenska's blog.  If this is your very first stop, I want to thank you so much for stopping to visit me. If you like to skip and hop and happen to get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

I am really excited to share my card with you that it puts chills down my spine...or, maybe I have goosebumps!  haha  I know I'm dreaming of a weeee bit cooler weather, but until then, follow me as I share the steps to making my card.

Creative Tips:

  • Start with a Very Vanilla card base measuring 4-1/4" x 11" with a center score across the middle at 5-1/2".
  • The Cherry Cobbler layer measures 4" x 5-1/4" with a pattern from the This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper that measures 3-1/2" x 5-1/8".  I purposely offset the designer paper to give it a little contrast.  Set this layer aside...don't glue to the card base just yet.
  • The focal point is a 2" strip of Very Vanilla that has been banner cut at the bottom.  The sentiment comes from the Peace This Christmas stamp set and was inked up with Stampin' Write Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green Markers.  Both are from the Regals Color family.  Add a 1/2 Metallic Gold Foil Doily to accent the edge and glue the tag to the front of the designer paper layer.

PeaceThisChristmas-StampItHop-Lori-DSC01337

  • To make this card even more festive, wrap some Very Vanilla 1/2" Lace Trim around the Cherry Cobbler layer and tie into a bow!
  • Die cut some Cherry Cobbler floral flourishes and Garden Green single leaves from the Flourish Thinlits set.  Set them into place with one overlapping the top of the Lace Trim and the other tucked under it a bit.  Top each one with the largest Pearl from the Pearls Basic Jewels pack.
  • Add Stampin' Dimensionals to the back of the Cherry Cobbler layer and affix to the front of the Very Vanilla card base. For a little more bling, add a couple of Metallic Gold Sequins from the assortment pack.

So, are you ready for Christmas?  Yea, me neither, but I sure did have fun playing around with the season.  I got to showcase some new products out of the new catalog...a new stamp set, designer series paper, and Flourishing Thinlits.  YAY!!   Now, you want to make sure you visit the other Stamp It Group members' blogs to see what Christmas In July project they have to share.  It's never too early to get started on those cards.  ;)  Don't forget to come back real soon.

Creative Inking Blog Hop -- Be A Big Shot!

CreativeInkingHeader-Image

Hello stampers; and welcome to my stop on the July Creative Inking Blog Hop! I am sooo excited to have you here because we are featuring one of my ultimate favorite products in the Stampin' Up! catalog...the Big Shot!! I. LOVE. MY. BIG SHOT!! and, I'm proud to say that I am addicted to that big lug....I use it everyday, for every creative project, and for multiple purposes. I find it very difficult to create a card without it. I cannot tell a lie!

You may be starting from here at my blog, Lori Mueller - Stampin' Dreams, or you may have come here from the talented Sandy Mott's blog. Please be sure to click the 'Next' button to move along the blog hop. If you get off track at any time, the full line up below will help you move along from blog to blog.  So, here is my AH-mayzing creation....if I do say so myself.  Super easy, too!

CreativeInkingHop-SunburstThanks-Lori-DSC01299

Outside of using my Big Shot for all of my creations, I seemed to be in love with watercoloring and the Emboss Resist Technique.  I was striving for a Shabby Chic look, but I think I've got a little Retro look going on, too.  Let's travel through the Creative Tips....

Creative Tips:

  • I started with a Very Vanilla card base measuring 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2" and sponged the edges with Crumb Cake.
  • The background layer is Watercolor paper that has been stamped with the Petals Embossing Folder using VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.
  • Heavily spritz water over the entire surface with a Stampin' Spritzer. Use an Aqua Painter to watercolor Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Crushed Curry, Dapper Denim, and Watermelon Wonder to cover the entire clear embossed layer. Watch as your embossed background comes to life because it will resist taking on a ink. Let this layer dry thoroughly before sponging Crumb Cake around the edges. NOTE: Because of the nature of wet paper, it will warp a bit when it dries. I recommend using more than the usual amount of Stampin Dimensionals to help flatten the layer when you stick it to the card base....especially make sure to add dimensionals to the center...you want to make sure the center doesn't sink and cave in.
  • Now, here is where the Big Shot comes in...YAY!!  Take a piece of Very Vanilla card stock measuring 3-1/8" x 3-1/2" and die cut using the Sunburst Thinlit. To create more 'rays' to the Sunburst die, I took my Paper Snips and cut out a slivered wedge from each big 'ray'.

SunburstTrimmedRays-Lori-DSC01282

  • To add some color and a little contrast, I added the same colors of ink with my Aqua Painter to the largest Clear Block (letter F). Spritzed the surface with water and flipped over to 'stamp' the color onto the 'thinned up' Sunburst. NOTE: hold the block in place on the Sunburst layer so that the Very Vanilla card stock will soak up the ink from the block. You can set aside to dry or use the Heat Tool on the low setting. When completely dry, sponge the newly inked Sunburst with Crumb Cake ink.  Take your Paper Snips and give the bottom rays a little 'haircut'. I wanted the rays to be rounded and not squared off.  Attach the Sunburst layer to the embossed Watercolor paper layer using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  • The focal point consists of a piece of Watercolor paper that was water colored with Crushed Curry ink, heat dry using the Heat Tool, stamp the sentiment with Archival Basic Black ink and Clear Emboss. Die cut the sentiment using the Sunburst Circle die found with the Bakers Box Framelit's die set.

CreativeInkingHop-SunburstThanksSide-Lori-DSC01289

  • Set the sentiment layer over top a Watermelon Wonder layer that was die cut using one of the new scalloped circles from the Layering Circles Framelit's set. Add a strip of 5/8" Burlap Ribbon between the layers and set into place with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed my card...because it's kind of a Big Shot creation!  Let me know if you have any questions.  I'll try to do a video to share and demonstrate just how easy it is to create.  Until then, you will want to make sure to hop on over to Dena Rekow's blog.  I know you will enjoy the "Be A Big Shot" tour.  Click on the 'Next' button and you'll be at your next stop.  If you get lost or sidetracked, please come on back and follow the list of participants shown below.  Have fun filling your inspiration bucket...don't forget to come back real soon.  :)

OSAT Blog Hop -- Shabby Chic Playful Backgrounds

OSAT-BlogHop-Header-2016

Good morning!  Welcome to our One Stamp At a Time (OSAT) Design Team Blog Hop!  Can you believe that we are half way through our 2016 year?!!  YIKES!  Well, I'm glad (and very grateful) you have stopped by to visit me...I love having visitors and I live to inspire.  Just a note...in order to view all of the blog participants sharing their wonderful craftiness, click on the "NEXT" button at the bottom of each post.

I am really excited about this month's blog hop because we are focusing our projects on a particular creative style called Shabby Chic.  It seems like it's been a while since I felt that I have created a Shabby Chic card, but then again, I believe I throw in a tad of it here and there.  Shabby Chic is right up my alley as I always relate it to my childhood growing up on the farm.  All of my clothes were handmade...especially, all of my Sunday dresses....lots of lace and satin ribbon. Today, I'm featuring the mix of the "Playful Backgrounds" stamp set and the delicate Butterflies Thinlits with the soft touch of lace and linen thread. Let's check it out.

OSATHop-ShabbyChicPlayfulBackgrounds-Lori-DSC01237

Creative Tips:

  • The card base is Watermelon Wonder cardstock, measuring 5-1/2" x 8-1/2"" and scored at 4-1/4".
  • The next layers of cardstock are Early Espresso, Crushed Curry and topped with Very Vanilla.  I inked up the striped image from the Playful Backgrounds stamp set with Crushed Curry and stamped it onto a piece of scrap paper and then stamping a 2nd time directly onto the Very Vanilla Layer (no reinking in between stamping the image).  Repeat this process until you reach the top of the layer.
  • Wrap some Linen thread around the Crushed Curry and Very Vanilla layer and finish with a bow.  Pop up this layer using Stampin' Dimensionals and set in place on the Early Espresso layer.
  • The Shabby Chic focal point consists of the Butterflies Thinlits cut from Watermelon Wonder and glued down the butterfly's center spine and placed onto the stamped panel.

OSATHop-ShabbyChicPlayfulBackgroundsCloseUp-Lori-DSC01241

  • The little Rosette is created using the Very Vanilla 1/2" Lace Trim and a Very Vanilla 3/4" punched circle.  Cover the circle with Fast Fuse and start adding the Lace Trim on the outer edge...scrunching/pleating it as you go around from outer edge to the center.  I used Glue Dots in the center to hold the end of the Lace Trim.  NOTE:  I do not recommend using Multi-Purpose Liquid glue because fabric and liquid glue end up being a sticky mess everywhere.  Therefore, use a permanent adhesive (like Tear and Tape or Fast Fuse) that will not create a gushy-gooey mess.  The center of the Rosette is a large White Perfect Accent. I removed the white paper from the back and glued a Crushed Curry circle punched from the Owl Punch to the back.  This ties the center of the Rosette to the Crushed Curry stamped stripes and matted layer.  Use several Glue Dots or Liquid Glue to add the Rosette to the Butterflies die cut.
  • Last little touch....stamp the sentiment from the Thankful Thoughts stamp set using Early Espresso ink and stamp onto a strip of Very Vanilla cardstock.  Banner cut the end and tuck in between the layers of the Rosette using Glue Dots to hold in place.
  • DID YOU KNOW? that you can click on any images I include related to the project to see an enlarged version?  Yep!  I do this so that you can see the details of my projects a weeee bit better. As I get older, I'm finding myself pulling out what I call my "granny glasses".  haha

Upcycled Candy Jar Project:  There is nothing better to go with a Shabby Chic Thank You card than an upcycled tall skinny jar filled with yummy Sixlets chocolates.  As you can see, I mimicked the butterfly and lace rosette to decorate the front.  So stinkin' easy and adorable!  One would never know that there used to be Capers in that jar before the Sixlets.  Say what?!!  I love to recycle to make unique little gifts.  If you haven't already...go check out your recycle bin to see what you can make into something new and unique.  {grin}

OSATHop-ButterfliesThinlitShabbyChic-Lori-DSC01254

 Creative Tips:

  • The belly band is a 2-1/2" x 5-1/2" strip of Crushed Curry, then wrapped with the new Burlap Ribbon.
  • The lid to the jar was white, so I wrapped it with some Tear Tape around the edge and topped it off with Very Vanilla Lace Trim to tone down the brightness.  I covered the top of the lid with a couple of circle punches from Watermelon Wonder and Early Espresso cardstock.

So, what do you think?  A gift ensemble I know you or someone you care and appreciate would love to receive.  At this time, you are now ready to hop on over to Megan Thompson’s blog.  You won't want to miss traveling on as I know that she will have something adorable to share with you.  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can jump back to Marisa Gunn’s blog.  Either way, be sure to work your way through all of the blogs so you don’t miss a thing!
