Ask A Stupid Question Day with Tabs for Everything!!

Can you believe that there is such a day as "Ask A Stupid Question Day"???  Apparently, this started in the early 1980's, and is a holiday that is sometimes celebrated in the United States, usually by school students and teachers. Although Ask a Stupid Question Day's default date is September 28, in practice it is usually observed on the last school day of September.

TabsForEverything-StupidQDay-Lori-DSC05610

We’ve all done it, had that question we wanted to ask that just sounded astoundingly stupid. We’re embarrassed that it even occurred to us, and worse, that we didn’t know the answer when it seemed so simple that it made you slap your forehead and ask for a V8!!  The truth is there is no such thing as a stupid question, except the one that you choose not to ask.

Now, to try and reincarnate this particular day into a handmade greeting card was going to be a challenge.  You see, the mere fact that I'm creating something for this day is because one of my Dream Team members is in charge of posting a crafting challenge in our group each week to help push us to think outside the crafting box...out of our comfort zone.  Eeep!  The only ideas running through my head were to look for stamp sets with some sort of sentiments like "huh" and "duh".  I came across the Tabs for Everything stamp set  in my stash that has all sorts of single words and small phrases that could be grouped to make small statements/sentences.  **squeal**

TabsForEveryone-AskAStupidQDayFlat-Lori-DSC05616

Once I found the perfect words, I knew that I needed to include the question mark die found with the Large Alphabet Letters Framelits.  I remember (many moons ago) the old joke would be to answer back to the question "now if I knew the answer, I wouldn't be asking you, now would I?!!"  It was always a "duh" moment with laughter to follow.  haha!

TabsForEverything-AskAStupidQClose-Lori-DSC05617

COOL TIPS!

  • When you want to make a statement without using dimensionals, all you have to do is die cut or punch multiples of the same image, glue all of the layers together, and, VOILA!!  Dimension without dimensionals!
  • The Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper isn't just for Christmas (brand new in the Holiday catalog).  Those gingham patterns are AH-mazing!! and will enhance any holiday or theme.
  • There are tiny shapes of square and rectangles found in the Christmas Staircase Thinlits Dies set that help frame small words and phrases.  I love to think outside the box.  teehehe!

I hope you found some laughs and enjoyment with my card share today. I challenge you to create a card, scrapbook page, or whatever based on any "special" daily holiday.  Here is the website that lists all sorts of bizarre, unique, special and otherwise different days to celebrate.  Have fun!

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop -- Layered Leaves

Hello Stampers and Papercrafters!  Welcome to the September A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop!! A number of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators from all over the world have joined together to share alternative projects using supplies from the monthly kit.  I'm so thrilled to have you stop by to check out my altered creation for today.

PPHop-HeaderPic

This month's hop features the fun and fall-ish "Layered Leaves" kit.  The stamp set included with this kit showcases a couple of detailed leaves; and I love the font used for all of the sentiments.  There is sooo much product supplies included in this kit that there were quite a few extras after the entire kit was finished!  YAY!! I'm super excited to share my altered kit project with you...let's take a gander.

PPLayeredLeavesKit-Sept2017-Lori-DSC05597

I really like this month's kit, so I was excited to discover that the kit came with 4 extra pieces of each die cut leaves and accessories.  How sweet is that?!!  This meant that I could make all 16 projects...8 each of the 3x3 card and pillow boxes, and then use the leftover pieces for whatever projects I could dream up.  Sort of like having leftover Sunday Roast so that you can make beef stew or beef stroganoff to create a 2nd meal that really isn't tasting like 'leftovers'!  :)  Leftovers are awesome!

PPThingHop-LayeredLeaves-Lori-DSC05600

The Soft Suede card base was shouting out "Fall" to me.  I layered a piece of Wood Textures Designers Series Paper that was embossed with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured embossing folder onto a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock. To give a sense of a rustic feel, the patterned paper was distressed on the edges.  I love the rustic look.

PPThingHop-LayeredLeavesFlat-Lori-DSC05603

The hashed pattern paper comes from the Painted Autumns Designer Series Paper pack that is available in the Holiday catalog.  A strip of Gold Glimmer paper trims this piece to set it apart from the woodgrain paper.  It also coordinates and enhances the Gold leave layered with the bunch of leaves.

Stamp It Blog Hop -- Halloween Spooky Boo Eclipse

Halloween-fall-blog-hop2017

Hello, hello there stampers and paper crafters!  Welcome to my spot on the Stamp It Bog Hop for the month of September.  This month's theme is anything related to "Fall" or Halloween.  I have been making a lot of Halloween cards the last few weeks, so I thought I would put together a cute and FUN piece of home decor.  So, my project is a Halloween 3D (5"x7") picture frame wall hanging featuring my most loved stamp set...wait for it...can you guess which one?  I know you know...yesss, I'm showing off the Spooking Cat stamp set found in the Holiday catalog.  Trust me, you are going to LOVE my project!...sooo stinking ADORBS!!

If you have been traveling along the Stamp It Group Blog Hop, you may have come here from, Brenda Diaz's blog.  If this is your very first stop, I want to thank you so much for stopping to visit me. If you like to skip and hop and happen to get off track, the full blog lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

SpookyCat-EclipseFrameRight-Lori-DSC05592

It has been a long time since I have created anything using a Sponge Brayer and ink.  eeek!  Once I added Pumpkin Pie to the center portion of the Glossy White Paper, the technique flowed well.  It's like getting back up on your bicycle (or in the saddle).  The top and bottom were brayered with Perfect Plum Classic Ink.

The witches hat was inked with Archival Basic Black ink, clear embossed and set with a heat tool.  The cute little kitty full of words was inked with Versa mark, embossed with gold powder and set with a heat tool.  The owl was inked with Smokey Slate ink, but no heat embossing.  I wanted him to stay a little more subtle among everything else.

SpookyCat-EclipseFrameFlat-Lori-DSC05595

I chose to die cut the word "SPOOKY" with the Large Letters Framelits Dies because it had an even number of letters that fit nicely in the picture frame.  I wanted to make sure that the letters were die cut across the Pumpkin Pie and Perfect Plum gradients, too.  Instead of adding dimensionals to the letters, I die cut 2 sets of Basic Black letters and glued all 3 layers together.  The letters with dimensionals would not fit behind the glass pane, so I added Fast Fuse to the letters and I set them in place onto the glass pane with the main 5"x7" panel behind the glass pane.  The end result was to achieve the "Eclipse" look, which worked out quite nicely.  :)

For character, I added some Striped Wired Ribbon, Vintage Crochet Trim, and a long strand of Gold Mini Sequin Trim to the corner.  Oh, and don't forget this little Rats!  They are harmless on paper, so stamp, cut and adhere all you want...they won't bite!  :)

So, tell me your thoughts on this framed artwork?  Is it something that you would give a try to make? I'm curious to know.

For more Fall or Halloween themed inspiration, make sure you hop on over to Linda Cullen's blog and all the other Stamp It Group members' blogs to see what projects they have to share.  Thank you so much for stopping by....stop back again real soon.

Stampin Friends Blog Hop -- September Starts Fall Season

BlogHopHeader-2017

Good morning to everyone!  Welcome to my stop on the Stampin Friends Blog Hop!  I am excited to have you here!  **squeal**  The September theme arrives on the first day of Fall...that's today!...so what better creative topic than anything related to the Fall season. Now, get ready to be WOW'd because I know you are going to love what I have created for this hop.

This may be your first stop on the hop, or you may have hopped over here from Lynn Streifert's blog. Either way, in order to view all of the blog participants sharing their wonderful craftiness, click on the "NEXT" button at the bottom of each post; or, their name found in the blog hop participant list.

StampinFriendsHop-WoodlandBooCard-Lori-DSC05572

Ever since the amazing Solar Eclipse occurred on August 21, 2017, a new creative technique called the "Eclipse" came to life.  I couldn't resist but giving this technique a try myself and am so happy that what I envisioned in my head really did develop with cardstock.  The Woodland Textured Embossing Folder and the Large Letters Alphabet were a great pairing to work on the Fall-ish type theme, as well as, create a spooky Halloween card.

StampinFriendsHop-WoodlandBooFlat-Lori-DSC05576

It is very important that you die cut the alphabet letters first, then put the Whisper White layer along with the new alphabet die cuts into the Woodland Embossing Folder to make sure that dry embossing holds all of the full texture.  If you emboss first, then run the alphabet dies through the Big Shot after, the framelits will smoosh the embossed texture around the edges and steal away from the full effect of the Eclipse appearance.

The sentiment comes from the...you guessed it!...the Spooky Cat stamp set.  I know, I know, but I love that I'm getting lots of creative time with that set.  When you get yourself such a fun stamp set, you want to give it lots of love.  :)  It was inked with Archival Basic Black ink and clear embossed to add a little shine.  It was hard getting the camera to capture the texture of the clear embossing and compliments the new Black Rhinestone Jewels. The black Vintage Crochet Trim is dainty and delicate, and is the perfect touch to finish the card.

Coordinating Spooky Cat Mini Jar

What are the chances that I could find a little jar that has a rubber ring to coordinate with my Spooky Cat Lemon Lime Twist tag?  How fun is that, right?!!  :o)  The tag and sentiment images come from the Spooky Cat stamp set and is popped up onto the Lemon Lime Twist banner die cut was done with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits die.:)  I couldn't resist adding some Black Metallic Thread in between the cardstock layers.  I love dimension and adding a little bit of whimsical character.  Filled the jar with Roasted Pumpkin Spice Peanuts and you've got yourself a super cute gift!

StampinFriendsHop-SpookyCatTag-Lori-DSC05582

So, tell me, what do you think of my projects?  Do you think you will try your crafty hand at creating an Eclipse card?  It really is a fun (and extremely easy) technique.  I'd love to have you share with me when you do play and create.

Creative Inking Blog Hop -- Holiday Catalog Must Haves

CreativeInking-HeaderImage

Good evening stamper and crafter friends!  Welcome to the Creative Inking Blog Hop!!  It is September and not quite the first day of Fall, so that means that I can still hold off creating Fall and Winter creations.  LOL!  This month we are sharing our creations that focus on our "must-haves" products available in the new Holiday catalog.  There are sooo many wonderful new products that I want to play with and narrowing down my MUST HAVE list to one thing is next to impossible.  Sooo, instead, I am focusing on a Suite of products because, really, who can just settle on 1-2 items from that amazing catalog, right?!!!  Sorry, but I definitely do NOT have the will power!  haha   I am infatuated with creating Halloween projects, so you might already be able to guess which Suite of products I am going to convince you to add to your arsenal of supplies.  ;)  No sense delaying....!

You may be starting from here at my blog, Lori Mueller - Stampin' Dreams, or you may have come here from the very talented Sandy Mott's blog. Please be sure to click the 'Next' button (found below) to move along the Creative Inking blog hop. If you get off track at any time, the full line up below will help you move along from blog to blog.

CreativeInkingHop-SpookyCatCard-Lori-DSC05558

I can't tell you how much fun I have had with the new Spooky Night Suite...cats, owls, and more have been designed for lots of spooky fun!  The Spooky Night Designer Series Paper is the best part!  All of the patterns and variety of colors are fun and will play nicely with the Spooky Cat stamp set.   The Fall season is usually the time I pull out my Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze, which is a shame, really, but that's what happens in my crafting sessions.

Creative Tips:

  • The card layout features more of straight lines and rectangles, which is also the case with the spooky tree and moon pattern within the Spooky Night paper pack.  To mix it up and ease the eye focus, I used the Layering Circles dies to round things up a bit with the main focal panel.

CreativeInkingHop-SpookyCatFlat-Lori-DSC05563

  • There are several accessories incorporated in the Spooky Night Suite that are super fun! But the one accessory that is available in the main catalog that coordinates VERY well with the Spooky Night Suite is the Black Mini Sequin Trim.  I couldn't help but incorporate that into this card.  :)

CreativeInkingHop-SpookyCatLace-Lori-DSC05566

  • The new accessory that is noted as part of the Suite is the new Black Vintage Lace.  I love the feel of this lace...it adds the perfect (delicate) touch to a simple sentiment.
  • The Spooky Cat stamp set plays so nicely with several of the patterns found in the Spooky Night paper pack.  For instance, look at how quietly and calmly the Owl image (inked with Smokey Slate) rests upon the spooky tree branch!  And those eyes!  It was hard to capture the shine of the Black Rhinestone Jewels used to bring out the best in my owl....another new accessory!  Just think...we can now retire our Black Sharpie pen that we used to color the regular Basic Rhinestones with to get the same affect!  **squeal**

CreativeInkingHop-SpookyCatRat-Lori-DSC05567

  • I hate rats!  Ewwww!  Growing up on the farm, there were plenty of those varmints roaming around the grain bin taunting our dog to bark at them continually throughout the evening.  But, this little guy was under my control to stamp, hand cut him out and perch him on the branch with a dimensional.  One accessory that is a must-have (available in the Annual catalog) is Wink of Stella!  You MUST get some!  See how pretty and sparkly this little varmint is?  Think of it as the fur glimmering under the moonlight.  LOL!

If I have enticed, I mean inspired, and increased the need to get your hands on any of the Spooky Night Suite of products (plus, a few other items), I would be very, very appreciative of your shopping excursion through my online store.  I hope you will give them a try and be inspired to share some of your spooky creations with me.

So with one click you can be on your way to soak in some more Two-Step Stamping.  Your next stop on the hop is Dena Rekow's blog...she always has something super adorable to share. Click on the 'Next' button and you'll be at your next stop.  If you get lost or sidetracked, please come on back and follow the list of participants shown below.  Have fun filling your inspiration bucket...don't forget to come back real soon.  :)

OSAT Blog Hop -- Throwback Thursday in September!

OSATBlogHop-2017Header

Hello, hello, hello stampers and paper crafters!  Welcome to my stop on the One Stamp At a Time (OSAT) Design Team Blog Hop!  This months theme is a fun one that everyone can relate to...Throwback Thursday.  Usually this involves rehashing memories and old pictures of yourself, a group of people or a past vacation/event.  Just so you know, I won't be showing off old pictures of myself with big hair and bell bottom pants.  haha!

This may be your first stop on the hop, or you may have hopped over here from my dear friend Tina Rackley Riddle's blog. Either way, in order to view all of the blog participants sharing their wonderful craftiness, click on the "NEXT" button at the bottom of each blogger's post.

OSATHop-ThrowbackThurs-SpookyCat-Lori-DSC05522

I haven't been able to put away the Spooky Cat stamp set and coordinating Cat punch because I have been having way too much with this bundle!  That cat is sooo stinkin' cute!  I am definitely getting my monies worth from this bundle (save 10% when you buy the bundle).  So, the inspiration for my Throwback Thursday creation stems from this card I shared almost a year ago.

StampItHop-SpookyFunMask-Lori-DSC01549

When I created that card, I used a modeling paste purchased from a hobby store.  Since then, Stampin' Up! has introduced their own line of Embossing Paste.  **squeal**  The fun factor is that we can add any color to the white base paste using any reinker color that you wish.  I selected Basic Gray and applied a 'light' brick wall using one of the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. I purposely chose not to fill in all the spaces...I wanted an ominous, spooky affect.  Looks pretty cool, right?

OSATHop-ThrowbackThurs-SpookyCatFlat-Lori-DSC05526

To follow suit with the color scheme from the older card, I used Lemon Lime Twist, Perfect Plum and Pumpkin Pie to create the fun 'frames' to set off the Gold embossed cat.  The frames were made with the help of the Stitched Squares and Circles Framelits and Layer Squares Framelits and my trusty Big Shot.  The bling comes from the Gold Metallic Thread looped and resting behind the punched cat.

Coordinating Spooky Cat Mini Treat Bag

I really dug deep into my archived creations for this one...two years ago.  :)  This little Mini Treat Bag is one of my favorite things to make because you can use any designer series paper or cardstock of your choice to create mini treat bags for any holiday or special occasion.  I am soooo in love with the Spooky Night Designer Series Paper available in the new Holiday catalog.  It has kind of a retro feel to it.  Check out page 51 for the whole suite of coordinating products.  Super cute samples and FUN ideas!

At this time, you are now ready to hop on over to Pam Staples’s blog.  You won't want to miss traveling on as I know that she will have something adorable to share with you.  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can jump back to Tina Rackley Riddle's blog.  Either way, be sure to work your way through all of the blogs so you don’t miss a thing!
