Hello my stamping crafty friends!!  I am sooo excited that you are here to experience World Card Making Day with all of us Stampin' Up! demonstrators from....literally....all over the world!  This is an amazing blog hop with sooo many talented crafters sharing what we all love to do...stamp, craft and share.

Sending a card is a small gesture that shows just how much you care about that special someone in your life. With World Card Making Day recognized across the world, it reminds us to celebrate by making and sending a handmade card to someone who could use a little recognition, love, or just a boost (which is anyone, really!).  I am really bad and extremely late getting this card created and hand-delivered to a friend who delivered a new little girl a few weeks ago.  I couldn't pass up using the Fox Builder Punch to create this CUTE little 'baby' fox.  I know the old adage is related to weddings, but something new also brings out something old.  haha!  Something that I haven't used in quite a while was my Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  ACK!!!  I had forgotten all of the wonderful sentiments available (24 sentiments in one stamp set!  YEAH!!)

You may be starting from here at my blog, Lori Mueller - Stampin' Dreams, or you may have come here from the previous person to me on the list. Please be sure to click the person after me to move along the blog hop. If you get off track at any time, the full line up below will help you move along from blog to blog.

 Creative Tips:

  • With the amount of layers that I had in mind, I chose to go with the Whisper White Thick cardstock for my cardbase (4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2").  I mean, really, who would not want to display this little cutie on a shelf in the baby's room?!!  (giggle)  Our Thick cardstock is great for that purpose.
  • I chose a double matte color, Smokey Slate and Pool Party...both coordinate with the A Little Foxy Designer Series Paper Stack, to compliment the Chevron pattern and the Woddgrain Embossed Whisper White layer.
  • The 1/8" Smoky Slate Stitched Ribbon tied in a bow is a soft compliment to the matte layers.

  • Foxy Friends stamp set and coordinating Fox Builder Punch (bundled together for a savings of 10%) is super fun to create all sorts of cute critters.  The CUTE fox was created using Calypso Coral ink stamped onto Whisper White cardstock...all quick and easy to assemble with the help of the coordinating punch.  I did decide to hand cut (aka fussy cut) the legs as I wanted them to appear naturally set in front of the body.  Otherwise, if I stamped the legs directly onto the body, they would have gotten shortened when the body was punched out.
  • Using the Layering Ovals Framelits, cut out 2 layers...the larger from Pool Party, the patterned one from the A Little Foxy paper stack.  Add the cute little fox with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The sentiment was stamped with Archival Basic Gray ink onto Calypso Coral cardstock and cut using the Bunch of Banners Framelits die set.  Add the smallest pearls from the Basic Pearls pack and set in place with more Stampin' Dimensionals.

OSAT Blog Hop - It's Summer Lovin’ Time!

OSAT-BlogHop-Header-2016

Good morning!  Welcome to our One Stamp At a Time (OSAT) Design Team Blog Hop!  There are 16 amazing paper crafters from around the States who will be sharing their handmade projects with you this month.  In order to view all of the blog participants sharing their wonderful craftiness, click on the link at the bottom of each post.

It's June, which means that the first day of Summer and the Longest Day of the year are only a couple of weeks away.  It also brings to life new babies into the world, too.  I have several friends who are expecting a new baby girl or boy this summer.  So, for this month's blog hop, we are focusing our projects on Summer Lovin'.  For me (and my friends) there will be lots of 'Summer Lovin' for those precious bundles of joy.  ;)  This blog hop theme couldn't be more timely as I am featuring my handmade creations around a couple of baby themed stamp sets..."Something for Baby" and "Made with Love".  I'm excited to share my creations with you...let's have a look.

OSATJuneHop-SummerLovinCard-Lori-DSC01173
Do you recognize the technique that I used?  If not, I'm very happy to share and explain to you the Emboss Resist technique!  If you are familiar with this technique, I hope you will find yourself marveling in the handmade goodness.  There are a couple of interesting twists that you might find interesting.  :)

Creative Tips:

  • The card base is Very Vanilla cardstock, but is not your typical (5-1/2" x 8-1/2").  It measures 5-1/2" x 7-3/4" and scored at 4-1/4".  The front of the card is shorter in width by 3/4".  I didn't plan for this because I just grabbed a scrap piece of cardstock from my stash and went with it.  I love to try new shapes and folds with my creations.
  • I took a Very Vanilla layer measuring 5-3/8" x 3-3/8" and stamped the safety pin image randomly with VersaMark ink.  Once I stamped enough to my liking, I covered all images with Clear Embossing Powder and set it with my Heat Tool on the high setting.  The reason I chose the Clear Embossing powder is so that the Very Vanilla cardstock would continue to show through as Very Vanilla.  Let cool before you start the next step.
  • The colors of ink are from the new 2016-2018 In Colors that were released with the brand new Annual catalog...Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy and Peekaboo Peach.  LOVE them!!  I used a sponge to swirl over top of the embossed images randomly across the page.  Don't be afraid to blend the sponging tightly so that you don't leave any areas without color.  When you have the amount of ink applied that fits your tastes (NOTE:  start adding ink lightly....you can always add more, but you can't take it away), take a dry paper towel and wipe off the excess ink that will be resting on top of the clear embossing.  The only areas that will pick up ink is the cardstock that does not have any embossed images.  Thus, the name of the technique....Emboss Resist.  Pretty cool, huh?!!
  • The focal images (onsie and pyramid toy) are resting on a piece of Vellum Cardstock.  I didn't want the piece any bigger and I didn't like the edges to be plain....I didn't want to matte it, either, because I wanted to be able to see the embossing through it.  The Vellum just softens this area so that the stamped images stand out as the focal point of the card.  I had some thin strips of Very Vanilla cardstock in my stash, so I used them to create a border...almost giving the Vellum piece a 'matted' appearance.  The Vellum was glued to the embossed layer; and the stamped images are popped up using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • I didn't want to use coordinating colored ribbon as I thought it would steal away from the nicely inked images, so I wrapped Very Vanilla Thick Baker's Twine around the embossed layer and glued it to the card front.  The sentiment comes from the "Made With Love" stamp set...inked in Emerald Envy and die cut using one of the tags in the Curvy Keepsake Thinlits Die set.  I die cut a plain Emerald Envy tag to pair up with the sentiment...thinking coordinating colors and added texture and dimension.  They are looped onto the Very Vanilla Baker's Twine before tying into a bow.
  • Last little touch....the necktie was inked in Emerald Envy, handcut and popped up with dimensionals.  Now, there is a framelit for that necktie, but I wanted a little less Very Vanilla border showing on the tie.

Pyramid Toy Project:  For more fun and inspiration, I created a fun imitation to the little pyramid toy on the card by using the Pyramid Pals Framelits.  Funny how coordination goes beyond color matching and tools.

OSATJuneHop-SummerLovinPyramid-Lori-DSC01183

Creative Tips:

  • The Pyramid is die cut from Dapper Denim.  BTW...I *love* the new In Color names!!  How can you not LOVE 'Dapper Denim'??  ;)  The sides are layered with 3/8" strips of Emerald Envy and Peekaboo Peach.
  • I wanted to imitate the round ball on the top, but we do not have any coordinating Thick Baker's Twine in Dapper Denim, so I took some 1/8" strips and curled them using my Bone Folder.  I glued the bottom tips together so that the curls held together like a bouquet and attached to the top.  Wrapped some Very Vanilla Thick Baker's Twine to finish the look at the peak of the pyramid, and VOILA!!!  Too stinkin' CUTE!!!

So, what do you think?  Pretty cute, huh?!!  At this time, you are now ready to hop on over to Elizabeth Jeanne Thatcher’s blog.  You won't want to miss traveling on as I know that she will have something super cute to share with you.  If you prefer to work your way backwards, you can jump back to Kim Smith’s blog.  Either way, be sure to work your way through all of the blogs so you don’t miss a thing!

Celebrate Today with a Baby Rattle

CelebrateToday-BabyRattleHeader-Lori-9728

Hello stampers!  I am just about done with this winter freezer...walking in it to get to work and letting the dogs in and out of the house is no fun for my body....I'm getting old and am losing my 'thick skin'.  Now, if I were skiing down a mountain or romping around in the snow with a snowmobile...well, that's a whole different story!  That's exercise and something that is fun to help me keep my mind off of the bitter cold.  I know, I'm weird, right?  LOL!

Today's card share is influenced by a couple of samples I saw on...get this....Pinterest!  I know, what CAN'T you find on Pinterest?!!  I surf and surf, while taking bits and pieces of different creations to make it my own.  I taught a stamp class this week featuring the Celebrate Today stamp set and coordinating Balloon Framelits.  I LOVE-Love-love that the stamps and framelits are so versatile....not just for balloons, I say.

CelebrateToday-BabyRattle-Lori-9714
Isn't this just so CUTE?!!  Follow me as I share the details....

  • The picture doesn't show it very well, but, the cardbase is Very Vanilla, as well as, the Tiny Triangles embossed layer that is matted onto Tangelo Twist.  I love this embossing folder...looked so much like a miniature baby quilt. The side strip is from the Birthday Bash Designer Series Paper pack and accented with some fibers from the 1-1/4" Burlap Ribbon.
  • I love the balloons and banners stamps from the Celebrate Today stamp set, but I wanted to create something outside the box...thus, the Baby Rattle was born. The "Happy" balloon was inked with Versa Mark and stamped onto Tangelo Twist cardstock and clear embossed to give it a little shine.  Baby rattles are always shiny...at first, right?  The 'baby' banner was inked with Night of Navy, stamped onto Tangelo Twist, and glued to the 'rattle'.  Both images were die cut using the coordinating Balloon framelits.
  • The handle is a strip piece of Crushed Curry, along with a Night of Navy die cut using the 2 smallest framelits from the Circles Collection.  I used Monoadhesive liquid glue to stick the handle to the 'rattle' and hallowed circle and then added Stampin' Dimensionals to pop up the entire rattle onto the embossed layer.  The bow was inked with Night of Navy, stamped onto a piece of Very Vanilla, and die cut with coordinating framelit from the Balloons framelits.
  • The colors for this creation originated from the Birthday Bash Designer Series paper pack, which makes this card very gender neutral.  I love it that Stampin' Up! lists the colors on the back of the paper pack....makes the guessing game super easy...just like making this card.  WOOT!
